City Hall will provide support to "5 de Diciembre" market vendors following fires

Electrical system will be modernized after more than 30 years without maintenance, while affected vendors receive financial assistance

The Puerto Vallarta City Council unanimously approved urgent measures to address the damage caused by recent fires at the "5 de Diciembre" Municipal Market, which affected vendors and highlighted the deterioration of the electrical system, which has not undergone a comprehensive overhaul in more than 30 years.

Mayor Luis Ernesto Munguía González emphasized that his administration is acting responsibly and with sensitivity, providing support to the vendors and prioritizing preventative measures to ensure the safety of this important commercial space.

The initiative, proposed by several members of the City Council and presented by Councilor Marcia Bañuelos, includes a comprehensive review of the electrical system, as well as its modernization and, if necessary, replacement, in order to have safe, functional facilities that meet current needs.

In this context, Daniel Alarcón, the city's Deputy Director of Markets, reported that immediate actions were implemented following the incidents, while the Director of Civil Protection and Firefighters, Misael López Muro, indicated that technical assessments are already underway to address the underlying issues with the electrical system.

Additionally, the mayor and the councilwoman promoted a second initiative proposing to provide financial support of 30,000 pesos to each of the seven affected vendors, with the aim of contributing to the prompt reactivation of their businesses. This proposal was referred to committees for analysis and review.

During the session, the vendors were present and expressed their gratitude for the timely attention and support provided by the City Council, acknowledging the actions taken to strengthen the safety and operation of the market.
