SEAPAL intensifies “Zero Grease, Let’s Protect the Drainage System” Program
Hotels and restaurants are being inspected to ensure functional grease traps and prevent blockages and spills in the sewer system
SEAPAL Vallarta is strengthening its “Zero Grease, Let’s Protect the Drainage System” campaign, which involves inspections of hotels, restaurants, and other establishments that handle fats and oils. The goal is to verify the installation and proper functioning of grease traps in their kitchen areas.
Through these visits, the agency aims to raise awareness among business owners and managers about the importance of preventing these substances from being poured down the drain. This practice is one of the main causes of blockages in the sewer system and sewage spills in public areas, the agency's Director General reported.
Therefore, these preventative measures are essential to protect the resources of Puerto Vallarta residents, avoid harm to the community and the environment, and preserve Puerto Vallarta's image as a tourist destination, especially during the upcoming rainy season.

In this first phase of the campaign, SEAPAL Vallarta is providing advice, supervision, and technical guidance to businesses to verify the proper functioning of their grease traps and compliance with applicable regulations. Follow-up visits will be conducted to ensure these systems are operating correctly.
Finally, SEAPAL Vallarta reiterated that all establishments involved in food preparation and sales must have grease traps and maintain them regularly, as these devices retain food waste before it enters the drainage system.
