SEAPAL Achieves Historic May with 98 Percent Potable Water Coverage

More than 340 neighborhoods and residential developments had continuous water supply during the most critical period of the dry season, a situation not seen in recent years.

SEAPAL Vallarta recorded a historic May in terms of potable water supply, achieving nearly 98 percent service coverage during one of the most challenging periods of the year due to high temperatures and the natural decrease in water sources caused by the dry season.

During the month, more than 340 neighborhoods and residential developments had continuous water supply 24 hours a day, while the interruptions recorded in the rest were mainly related to operational incidents, such as repairs for leaks or breaks in water lines.

This result represents a significant improvement over previous years, when supply disruptions were common at this point in the dry season. A production of 1,340 liters per second was achieved, allowing for efficient demand and ensuring water supply for the local population and tourism industry.

As part of the planning undertaken to address this season, the agency acquired and replaced pumping equipment at strategic facilities such as Gallery 3 of the Cuale River, Well 37, Well 25, the Agua Azul Repumping Station, and the Vertical Galleries of the Mascota River. Emergency repairs were also carried out at water sources such as Well 17. These actions allowed for the recovery of water flow and strengthened production capacity to meet the growing demand.

Furthermore, preventative work was carried out on the Mascota River by installing semi-groyne stone to protect the 30-inch diameter pumping line that carries raw water from this important water source and from the Vertical Galleries, thus guaranteeing its operation during the rainy season.

Led by the commissioning of the Mascota River Vertical Galleries, the most important drinking water production project in Puerto Vallarta in the last two decades, these actions have allowed the recovery of strategic flows and strengthened the system's response capacity.
