SEAPAL repairs Downtown sewer pipe before potential collapse

The Wastewater Collection Department worked continuously until the repair was completed

With the goal of protecting the health of Vallarta residents and tourists, as well as the ecological environment, SEAPAL Vallarta addressed a rupture in a 10-inch diameter sanitary sewer pipe located on Hidalgo Street, between Guerrero and Libertad Streets, in the Centro neighborhood.

Due to the complexity of the operation, personnel from the Wastewater Collection area worked continuously throughout Friday, April 24, until the repair was completed, as part of the agency's commitment to the timely response to these types of incidents.

Previously, during Thursday and early Friday morning, dredging operations were carried out using high-dynamic and high-vacuum equipment to contain wastewater spills and protect the public thoroughfare.

The damaged infrastructure consists of a pipe approximately 40 years old, constructed of plain concrete, which collapsed due to its lifespan, the constant accumulation of grease, and high demand in the area. It is being replaced with PVC pipe, a more flexible and durable material.

Once the work is completed, including backfilling the excavation and compacting the soil, traffic will be reopened to minimize disruptions. The repaving will take place next week.
