PV to Host World Tree Cities Meeting

For the second consecutive year, the city will receive this international recognition for the sustainable management of its urban trees

Puerto Vallarta will host the 2026 meeting of the World Tree Cities program, corresponding to the 2025 edition. With the support of civil organizations and academic institutions, the municipality reaffirms this international recognition for the second year in a row. The award, granted by the Arbor Day Foundation, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Reforestamos México, recognizes compliance with standards in tree care.

At a press conference, the manager of Territory and Sustainable City highlighted that this achievement is the result of comprehensive management that includes updating regulations, strengthening inventories, training staff, and implementing environmental compensation mechanisms that allow for the replacement of removed trees and ensure the continuity of ecosystem services.

For her part, Laura García Santamaría, leader of Tree Cities of the World for Mexico and Latin America, explained that this program allows municipalities to strengthen their public policies, facilitate resource management, and access better planning tools. She added that the meeting will bring together representatives from 44 cities in Mexico and delegations from Latin America.

The event will take place in May with the forum “Urban Trees as Seeds of Resilience,” where awards will be presented and authorities will share experiences to advance public policies that improve the urban environment. This type of initiative contributes to reducing urban heat, improving air quality, and strengthening resilience to climate events.

In the 2025 edition, the program reached 283 cities in 23 countries, 67 of which are located in Latin America, reinforcing the relevance of Puerto Vallarta as the host city for this international meeting.
