PV Celebrates 108 Years of History and Recognizes Exemplary Achievements

The Puerto Vallarta 2026 Award was presented to outstanding residents and organizations

The Malecón Arches served as the setting for the solemn session marking the 108th anniversary as a municipality and 58th anniversary as a city. As part of the commemoration, the City Council presented the Puerto Vallarta 2026 Award to citizens and organizations that have contributed to the municipality's development.

During his address, the mayor stated that this tourist destination seeks to preserve its traditions and identity while advancing with projects and initiatives that strengthen its growth. He also emphasized that the city is experiencing a new phase of development driven by coordination among the three levels of government.

The director of UNIRSE Vallarta, representing the governor, shared this vision and emphasized that Vallarta is one of Jalisco's greatest sources of pride.

The city's origins were recounted by chronicler Moisés Hernández López, who presented a summary of the evolution of the old town of Las Peñas into one of the country's most important tourist destinations.

He also highlighted the importance of preserving historical memory, archives, traditions, and the natural heritage that gives the region its identity.

During the awards ceremony, María del Carmen Anaya Corona received the "Ignacio Luis Vallarta Ogazón" award for her contributions to the municipality and her advocacy for the environment, while Isela Mariscal Hernández was honored with the "Teresa Barba Palomera" award for her contributions to cultural promotion.

Ana María Martínez Delgado received the "Francisca Rodríguez Rodríguez" award for her contribution to higher education; María Matilde Covarrubias Sánchez received the "Manuel Lepe Macedo" award for her artistic career; and the civil association Sustainable Development, Culture and Wildlife Conservation Nakawe A.C. was honored with the "Guadalupe Sánchez Torres" award for its work in environmental conservation.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the mayor recognized the generations of Vallarta residents who have contributed to building the city's history and assured that the municipality will continue moving toward a new era.
