Jalisco is ready to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup
From June 11 to July 19, a force of 15,000 security personnel will be deployed to ensure the safety of more than 3 million visitors
Jalisco is ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and, through planning and coordination, will implement a comprehensive strategy encompassing security, mobility, public spaces, tourism, and health.
The Governor of Jalisco announced that the most Mexican host city of the World Cup will welcome more than 3 million visitors and eight national teams from June 11 to July 19.
“We will deploy more than 15,000 personnel from all three levels of government in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, and we will have the most modern Monitoring and Video Surveillance Center in the country—C5 Escudo Jalisco—in operation,” stated the Governor.
He explained that the operational deployment will focus particularly on the Guadalajara Stadium, the Historic Center—where the Fan Fest will be located—as well as the state's Magical Towns, such as Chapala, Tequila, Tapalpa, and Puerto Vallarta.
"Our Historic Center will be ready to host the FIFA Fan Festival for 39 days, featuring giant screens, gastronomy, culture, and completely free experiences for all ages," he stated.
Regarding transportation, the Governor of the State noted that the new electromobility system, Line 5, will begin operating in early June, connecting the Guadalajara International Airport with the city of Guadalajara with greater speed, safety, and comfort.
"When fans disembark at the Guadalajara International Airport, ranked as the best in Latin America, they will find a completely renovated urban landscape at the airport's entrance to our city," he explained.
The Chapala Highway now features concrete lanes, sidewalks, a bike path, trees, and lighting.
Another logistical convenience that will benefit visitors to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is the opening of a parking area for pre-registered flatbed trucks, built by the State Government through the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP).
It will be located less than one kilometer from the Guadalajara International Airport, allowing users to take this transportation to travel safely and quickly to their destinations.
“It will have lighting, security, restrooms, and a waiting area. Visitors can take a bus a few meters from the terminal exit that will take them to this location free of charge and safely. Only pre-registered flatbed trucks will be allowed access, just like at the world's major airports,” he pointed out.
The Governor added that the program will promote visits to Guadalajara's Historic Center, the Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns), and Jalisco's beach destinations.
The welcome plan at the most Mexican of venues includes digital assistance tools with consular information and facilities for visitors to enjoy the local culinary offerings.
“From the moment they arrive, each visitor will have easy-to-understand information in their own language, with QR codes to download the Jalisco Alerta app, as well as a chatbot and a 24-hour hotline,” explained Pablo Lemus regarding the virtual assistance that will be provided to visitors.
The Governor noted that various projects and investments have been made in downtown Guadalajara and other traditional areas of the city, where visitors can enjoy the beauty and history of Jalisco.
“We renovated Plaza Liberación. It now has more public space, more trees, better lighting, rehabilitated fountains, and a more attractive pedestrian connection to the Degollado Theater; we also renovated Paseo Cabañas, which will feature a reflecting pool with interactive jets, so that children, families, and visitors can enjoy this barrier-free space with a spectacular view of the Hospicio Cabañas,” said the Governor.
The musical offering, he indicated, will consist of five free concerts.
On June 17, the Guadalajara-based band Maná will perform, and on June 25, Alejandro Fernández will take the stage, both in the Minerva Roundabout area, where it is estimated that at least 100,000 people will attend each day.
In addition, on June 25, Plácido Domingo, who has a special connection to Jalisco, will perform in our city as part of the Spain vs. Uruguay match.
“We will have two more concerts, another in Guadalajara and one in Puerto Vallarta, with international artists that we will announce very soon,” the state governor announced.
In the coming days, the Francisco Medina Ascencio electromobility corridor will begin operations with 38 electric buses serving 20,000 people in Puerto Vallarta, aiming to reduce emissions on the coast by up to 40 percent.
Regarding health, the Governor of the State specified that the necessary medical attention, as well as epidemiological control during the World Cup, will be handled professionally and promptly.
“We are also ready in terms of health. We controlled the measles outbreak in record time, (…), and although there are no confirmed cases of Ebola in Mexico, Jalisco is prepared with preventative surveillance at airports, hospitals, and international entry points,” stated Lemus Navarro.
For the educational community, classes for elementary and middle school students will be held virtually on the days that matches are played at the Guadalajara Stadium.
“What we will do is hold virtual classes for elementary school students on match days in our city, in order to ensure smoother traffic flow and so that children can fully experience the excitement of the World Cup,” Lemus reminded everyone.
These projects will serve as a legacy for the people of Jalisco, providing improved mobility, renovated public spaces, greater security, and a more organized city.
“We will welcome the world in true Jalisco style: with pride, hospitality, joy, and the greatness of our people,” the Governor concluded.
