Jalisco Governor proposes postponing judicial elections until 2028
The State Government calls on to ensure a smooth and transparent transition to the new legislation for the benefit of all the people in Jalisco
With a call to prevent judicial candidates from using political party structures, and to provide greater certainty to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) negotiations with the United States and Canada, Jalisco Governor urged postponing judicial elections until the summer of 2028
During the Punto Empresarial 2026 event, organized by COPARMEX Jalisco, the governor noted that the state has a significant opportunity to harmonize the judicial reform, guaranteeing that the most qualified candidates fill these positions
“If we hold judicial elections concurrently with general elections, such as the one we will have in 2027 for state and federal representatives and mayors, we risk having candidates for the judiciary become candidates for political parties, and that is dangerous for their autonomy,” explained the Governor of the State
“One negotiating tool to successfully implement the North American Free Trade Agreement with the United States and Canada is to postpone the judicial elections, because this has created uncertainty for investors,” he added.
