Vallarta to open its historical memory with unpublished archives and documents
The event “Puerto: Archive and Memory” will be open to the public and will bring together exhibitions, lectures, and archival specialists to connect citizens with the city’s past
Puerto Vallarta will open the pages of its historical memory with unpublished archives, photos, and documents during the event “Puerto: Archive and Memory,” which will take place next Friday, May 29, at 6:00 p.m. in the central courtyard of the Municipal Hall, as part of the activities commemorating the 108th anniversary of the municipality and the 58th anniversary of the city.
During the presentation, the city chronicler, Moisés Hernández López, pointed out that Puerto Vallarta faces a significant lack of municipal historical archives, so much of its history has survived through oral tradition.
He highlighted that the event will include conferences, a documentary exhibition, and the presentation of the "Mtro. Carlos Munguía Fregoso" Award, with the aim of bringing the city's historical memory closer to the public.

For her part, the head of the Municipal Archives emphasized that they are currently working to strengthen documentary preservation and lay the groundwork for the future Municipal Historical Archives.
She also noted the need for a larger space to safeguard the documentary heritage.
The event will feature specialists in history and archival science from Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Zapopan, and the General Archives of the State of Jalisco.
In addition, previously unpublished documents, plans, maps, and historical photographs rescued by the Municipal Archives and other institutions will be on display. The public is invited to attend and learn about part of Puerto Vallarta's documentary history.
