Civil Protection Council established for the 2026 Rainy and Hurricane Season
Agencies Reported Progress in Preventive Measures and Emergency Response Capacity
The Municipal Government established the Municipal Technical Council for Civil Protection for the 2026 Rainy and Tropical Cyclone Season to strengthen prevention and response to natural phenomena. This council is one of the most important bodies for municipal decision-making in the event of any emergency.
The event was attended by authorities from all three levels of government, the Mexican Ministry of National Defense, the Twelfth Naval Zone, representatives from the education and private sectors, associations, chambers of commerce, consulates, and the health sector. The council was declared to be in permanent session.
During the session, meteorologist Víctor Manuel Cornejo López reported that between 18 and 21 tropical storms and cyclones are forecast for the Pacific this season. As part of the preventive measures, various agencies presented reports on the work carried out in preparation for the upcoming storms.

The Directorate of Infrastructure and Public Works reported that of a goal of 24 dredging operations in rivers, streams, and canals, 19 have already been completed, and they will continue working to prevent flooding in vulnerable areas. Meanwhile, the Municipal DIF System confirmed that 16 agreements have been signed with various institutions to establish temporary shelters, if needed, with the capacity to accommodate 3,906 people, equivalent to 973 families.
With these actions, the Municipal Government is reinforcing its preventative strategy and inter-institutional coordination to protect the population during the 2026 hurricane season. The Committee remains vigilant and prepared for any situation or emergency that may arise.
