"Puerto, Archive, and Memory" Exhibition Displayed in City Hall
The exhibition offers a journey through the historical layers that have shaped the city, from its origins as the old port of Las Peñas to its urban, social, and institutional consolidation
As part of the celebrations for the anniversary of Puerto Vallarta, which this year marks 108 years as a municipality and 58 years as a city, the exhibition "Puerto: Archive and Memory" was inaugurated. This documentary display is located in the courtyard of the Municipal Hall.
The exhibition offers a journey through the historical layers that have shaped the city, from its origins as the old port of Las Peñas to its urban, social, and institutional consolidation.
Through documents, maps, plans, photographs, and historical records, the exhibition reminds us that the history of Puerto Vallarta lives not only in grand narratives but also in the documentary testimonies that safeguard essential fragments of daily life.
Among the exhibited pieces are the 1874 nautical chart of Las Peñas, the 1897 Map of the State of Jalisco, the 1910 Plan of the Ixtapa and Colecio haciendas, the 1922 Puerto Vallarta Expansion Project, the 1959 Plan of warehouses and storage facilities, as well as historical photographs of the Saucedo Theater, Hidalgo Park, the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and a view of Puerto Vallarta in the 1930s.

“Puerto: Archive and Memory” invites us to recognize the archive as a form of presence and permanence. Preserving documents does not mean accumulating papers, but rather defending the possibility that Puerto Vallarta continues to recognize itself in its history in the face of the erosion of time and urban transformation.
The exhibition will remain open to the public in the courtyard of the Puerto Vallarta City Hall until June 5.
