PV leads as a sports tourism destination with its 7th marathon edition

With a revamped route along the boardwalk, the race attracted more than 3,000 runners from 24 countries

The Government of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Tourism, celebrated the 2026 Puerto Vallarta Marathon, an event that brought together 3,000 runners from 24 countries.

In the main 42-kilometer race, Mexican athletes dominated the podium. Rubén Chávez, from Guanajuato, took first place in the men's category, while Micaela Rayo, from Morelos, was crowned champion in the women's category.

Stephen Ndege of Kenya finished second in the men's category, and Everardo Moreno took third place. In the women's division, Carolina Jebiwot Keptoo took second place and Emma Leticia Joya Estrada finished third.

In the open category for ages 18 to 39, Yuko Iriguchi of Japan won first place.

The Half Marathon also crowned its champions. Jorge Alberto Moreno Cortez triumphed in the men's division, while Brenda Jazmín Martínez Rodríguez led the women's.

The route, sanctioned by World Athletics and AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races), allowed participants to seek qualifying times for international events such as the Boston Marathon.

The race began at the Malecón Arches, where competitors passed through iconic landmarks such as Marina Vallarta and the airport area. This logistical approach highlighted the tourist attractions and service infrastructure of the Jalisco destination.

For the event, 700 barriers were installed, and the security operation included six ambulances, 300 paramedics, and 200 volunteers. The services provided to runners and the strategic location of the finish line strengthened Jalisco's image among national and international tourists.

The athletic calendar in the destination continues on Sunday, December 6, with the second edition of the Puerto Vallarta Half Marathon.

The eighth edition of the full marathon is scheduled for April of next year.
