Puerto Vallarta Signs Alliance with Plastic Smart Cities
This agreement with WWF Mexico aims to reduce plastic pollution by 2030
Committed to a more sustainable Puerto Vallarta, the Puerto Vallarta City Council signed an alliance with WWF Mexico, whose objective is to significantly reduce plastic pollution by 2030.
The agreement with WWF includes the development of a diagnostic study on the origin, treatment, and pollution of plastic in the city, and subsequently, a comprehensive management plan.
Following the signing of the agreement, awards were presented to local activists Antonio Güereña Garibaldo, Rigoberto Pedroza Yaver, and Margarita García Arévalo for their contributions to beach cleanups and environmental conservation.
Ixchel López Olvera, Director of the Oceans Program, stated that the goal is to have a plastic-free environment by 2030, conserving the oceans and key ecosystems such as mangroves and fishing grounds.
Puerto Vallarta is now the third city in Mexico to join this global initiative, as part of the celebrations for World Environment Day.
